Sasol Bursaries : The candidate must fulfill the following requirements in order to be eligible for the Mainstream Undergraduate
- Need to be a citizen of South Africa
- Enrolled or meeting the requirements to be admitted to a recognized South African university for the upcoming academic year
- Bursary available to gifted people nationwide for the pursuit of certain engineering, science, and technology qualifications while pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree full-time.
Requirements for Undergraduate Applications: B.Eng. and B.Sc.
- Level 6: Mathematics: 70–79%
- Level 6: Physical Science, 70–79%
- Level 5: for First Language English as a Second Language 60–69% or
- Level 4: for English as a Second Additional Language; 50–59%
- Level 5: for English as a Home Language 60–69%
General application criteria for students currently studying at university:
- Students in their first year will apply using their Grade 12 transcripts.
- When applying for a third year, current second-year students will use their first year’s scores.
- Applying for a 4th year or honors program, current 3rd year students must submit their 2nd year transcripts.
- Applying for a master’s degree, honors students will submit their third year transcripts.
- Master’s students with Honours degrees will apply for PhDs.
- To achieve the minimal requirements, undergraduate and honors students must have a score of at least 50%.
Requirements for current undergraduate students at universities:
(Years 1, 2, 3, 4, and Honors)
- For every subject the student registered for during the previous academic year, a minimum of 50% must be earned.
- If a student is applying for a bursary and is already enrolled in the degree program for which he or she is applying, the student must be able to finish their studies within the allotted minimum study period (four years for an engineering degree, for example).
- Applicants who have already added a year to the minimum study term (five years for an engineering degree), are on an extended study period, or intend to enroll in an extended degree course are not eligible to apply.
- Applications must be made for full-time enrollment in an authorized South African university toward the pursuit of an academic degree.
- There will be no consideration or acceptance of studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
- Aside from mine surveying studies, no scholarships are given for education at a university of technology.
Present postgraduate students at universities – (applying for Masters / PhD)
- For every subject the student registered for during the previous academic year, a minimum of 65% must be earned.
Note:
- Candidates who are both financially needy and academically competitive will be given priority in the final selection.
- The chosen candidates must be open to participating in psychometric tests and interviews.
- Notably, candidates enrolled in Grade 12 this year are required to submit their Grade 11 final results.
- The remaining candidates may submit their year-end results in any year that they have finished Grade 12.
Applying using their end-of-year results is permitted for students who were enrolled in higher education institutions.

What is covered by a bursary?
Undergraduate Sasol Mainstream Bursaries:
- Costs for registration fee
- Tuition (repeated modules do not require payment)
- Spending money on necessities
- Allowance for meals
- Accommodation money: This is the amount that the Sasol bursar would typically pay for a single room at a university house where they are enrolled in classes.
- An upfront payment for a computer and calculator
- Opportunities for work (with a work-back or pay-back obligation) based on the needs of the company
- Opportunities for growth (e.g., potential summer employment following the conclusion of the second and third academic years of education).
- Psycho-social support (e.g., workshops, employee aid program at Sasol, student talks, etc.)
Note this, please:
- Exam fees, registration fees, and prescribed tuition are paid to the university directly.
- If a student is lodging in housing managed by the university, they must pay the accommodation fees directly to the university. Any repeat subjects will be charged to the students.
- If a student chooses to live in housing managed by someone other than the institution, they will receive payment for their stay as well as meals in place of lodging. In such cases, the amounts will be restricted to those specified in the preceding points 2 and 3.
- Payment for books and pocket money will be made to the individual directly.
- Two times a year, payments are made in relation to the above.
- At the start of each semester, the first payment is made, and the second payment is made at the start of the second semester.
- Successful candidates receive full details about the requirements and the payment method after a bursary has been awarded.
